Benefits of using a mat over the mattres

Yoga on a mattress is probably great for your neck and shoulders but can be tricky for alignment I bet. A hard floor underneath a mat is essential for me to find balance and support during my practice. Also, if you are doing postures that require a lot of holding, the mattress and its unpredictable nature can possibly even aggravate your injury. I say that if you are using a mattress, try to stick to restorative postures like child’s pose, twists, and happy baby. If you want to get more out of your practice and have a safer range of motion and freedom, try stacking 2 or three mats on top of each other so you still get that cushioning.

If you are a beginner you should really try to get yourself to a yoga class on a mat, with a teacher there to support you!
