Hi ! I’m a student and latelly I am facing problem of concentration. I cannot able to concentrate on my studies even for 10 minutes continuously. Consequently my educational performance is degrading day by day. Anyone can give me some meditations/exercises, which can help me to let me concentrate for few minutes at least?
December 16, 2009 at 12:23 pm #16430I understand your frustration, and meditation has really helped me become more focused in my everyday life. If you like, close your eyes or bring your gaze to a single point and do not divert it. From here just breathe in and out and notice the way the breath feels in your nostrils, throat, and lungs. Become fascinated with how the breath moves and just focus on it for a few minutes. After you finish your sit, take a minute or two to be quiet and absorb your experience. This little bit of tuning in can refresh and reset the mind, clearing it out and becoming prepared for the rest of the day.

AnonymousI like to use mantra when I meditate. To build on Shanti’s suggestion, on the in breath I silently say “Ham” and on the out breath “Sah.” This is an ancient sanskrit mantra that means “I am that.” This can be translated as everything that you seek is already inside of you. This deeper meaning makes the meditation a more spiritual experience for me. It’s interesting, because after awhile my breath actually sounds to me like the words of the mantra.

AnonymousSometimes studies are challenging and you have resistance to the material that you are learning. I think it’s important to take a break when you need it, but also be really prepared and ready when you study. Do everything else you need to do beforehand or have it arranged to do later on so you don’t become distracted. Make yourself a nice cup of tea, and while you are doing that, be mentally engaging in the task and try to become very present. When you take your cup of tea to your desk, take a few sips and mentally become present with the work you have to accomplish. Put your tea down and take a few slow, steady breaths, and begin to work. Perhaps these little meditations in preparation to study will help you get more out of your study time. Good luck!
