NAM – SAT
This is one of the most powerful exercises and more used in Kundalini Yoga. It rises the energy from the lower Chakras upper Chakras. It has many pages written about its benefits. It mainly affects the heart, and circulatory system. It massages the internal organs. It contracts and loose the diaphragm, located in the Navel area, where we accumulated all the emotions. This technique aid to canalize and to direct the so valuable and powerful sexual energy, to be able to be used with spiritual aims.
It is said that people who practice this technique daily, after some time, notice security as never before, they feel a very hard connection with the Earth, clarity, very stable emotional state, etc.
How to practice it:
Seated on the heels, is the way in which it is taught. You can use cushions behind the knees, or protecting the top of the feet, or if you can’t get this position, you can sit in easy pose, with the legs crossed in the floor, and the back straight.
Raise the arms up, interlace fingers, except the middle fingers that pointing up. In the 70’s, Yogi Bhajan taught this technique with joint hands, but due to the severe use of drugs in that period and the power of this mudra, some people fell round to the ground. It was then when it decided to change it with interlaced fingers.
The elbows are straight, this is very important for the rise of the energy up.
The mantra is SAT NAM. SAT means name or identity, and NAM means truth.
In the position described above, INHALE pulling in the abdomen in, and chanting the mantra SAT, loud. Upon using the sound and strongly forcing the abdomen in at the same time, it creates a strong sound naturally.
With the EXHALATION release the abdomen out chanting the mantra NAM. The sound is smoother.
You can start practicing this kriya for 3 minutes, for 40 days to feel the purest effects but, work it out to 7, 11, 22, 31, or 62 minutes. Once the student decides to increase the amount of time cannot go back. And if you miss a you should start all over again from the first day for 40 days.
Normally when the student this starting it is recommended to begin with a small amount of time, and increase it at the same time that daily practices fortify. .
