Splits – Hanumanasana
Start by kneeling on the floor with the left leg forward and the right leg back with the toes curled on the floor. Then place the hands on the floor to each side of the body. Slowly straight the left leg and slide the right leg back. Now bring the arms closer to the hips while you bring the torso up in perpendicular with the floor. Hold and repeat in the other side.
In this position there is a big tendency to open the hips to the side. Try to avoid that by squaring your hips forward. The use of props, one at each side, may help you to achieve this.
Benefits:
- It opens the hips.
- It stretches the hamstrings and iliopsoas muscles.
- It stimulates digestion, and the reproductive organs.
Good for stress. It relaxes the body.
