Is Yoga Booty Ballet Right for You?
If you want a fun, easy workout, Yoga Booty Ballet may be just right for you. Combining easy yoga poses, hip-hop moves, and ballet stretches and positions, Yoga Booty Ballet aims to use variety to keep exercisers interested and having fun.
If you are looking for a hard-core workout program that makes you sweat, then this DVD may not be for you. However, if you need something that is light impact and teaches you very basic components of Yoga, Hip-Hop, and Ballet, then you will enjoy Yoga Booty Ballet. Strenuous exercisers or athletes may get bored quickly; but if YBB is great for those who are just beginning an exercise program or who want to feel happy and mentally alert when finished, instead of physically tired and exhausted.
The yoga part of the series is not as relaxing or as breath-oriented as most yoga workout DVDs. They demonstrate basic yoga poses, but many of them aren’t held for 20 seconds (the recommended minimum) and are rushed to move forward to the next pose or series. Yoga Booty Ballet definitely focuses on fun and high-energy, instead of the calming environment and techniques many are used to seeing during a yoga workout.
The best thing about this series of workout DVDs is the two instructors and co-creators, Teigh and Gillian. They are friendly, definitely in great shape, and walk you through the exercises with enthusiasm and grace. They are not pretending to have a good time; it obvious they are genuinely enjoying themselves while instructing others.
Besides yoga, hip-hop, and ballet, the series also includes a fun workout called “Cardio Cabaret”. While it may not make you sweat or significantly raise your heart rate, Teigh and Gillian show you several different fun and sexy dance moves that are placed into a flowing series. The workout is set to live music (a drum that is played in the background) and is fun to do with friends or family members.
Even though Yoga Booty Ballet began as a workout DVD series from BeachBody, it now has expanded to live sessions in gyms and studios across the country by certified instructors. This fun and light-hearted workout craze that has swept the nation may be in a gym near you, which is great for those who don’t like to work out at home or want the natural progression of a weekly class.
