How is Ananda Yoga different from other forms of Yoga?
There are nine key aspects which make Ananda Yoga different from other forms of Yoga. They are as follows:
- Continuous Awareness. The student tries their best to remain aware of the energy flowing through them, empowering their movement and breath.
- Safety Precautions. Correct alignment is emphasized in order to avoid injury, facilitate the flow of prana, and experience the postures at a deeper level.
- Sequence. Ananda Yoga generally begins with pranayamas and centering. Warming up exercises are done next, then standing poses, followed by seated and floor poses. Inverted poses complete the practice, then deep relaxation is performed. The practice finishes with sitting meditation.
- Pause.
- Begin on the Left.
- Using the Breath.
- Energy and Chakra Awareness.
- Affirmations. Most of the basic postures have their own specific affirmations which are repeated while holding the posture. Each affirmation is designed to help you become more deeply attuned to the energy flows awakened by the asana, while also working directly with the chakras.
- Being in tune with the Yoga Tradition.
