According to Yoga technology, sex is the sacred act of two souls merging and blending into one. This is an experience out of the ordinary, where the dance of polarities and the subtle bodies transcend and merge into one (as in Tantra). It is one of the closer physical experiences to the union with infinity.
The dictionary says that sex is a “sexual union involving penetration of the vagina by the penis”. This is only one aspect of sex because it only describes the physical experience. Without experiencing any of the emotions above the physical, sex is not entirely completed and is also referred to as “bucket sex”
The teachings of Patanjali (the third Yama) explain how sexual energy is one of the most potent energies. When redirected to the higher Chakras, this can lead to a more enlightened state of being.
The semen (ojas), should not be wasted. Semen functions not only as a sexual fluid, but also as a lubricant for the brain and nervous system. According to Yogic theory, it takes eighty bites of food to produce one drop of blood, and eighty droops of blood to produce one drop of semen. Most people know a priest, or someone who practices celibacy whose goal is to reach these higher states of being.
Think about all the energy we spend consciously or unconsciously thinking about sex. The way we dress, the way we act, our purchasing preferences, sexual preferences (heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual), and the way we look. Just take a second to imagine how your life would be if sex wasn’t in the picture. After thinking about this you will hopefully realize just how much of a roll sex plays in your life.
In the past, sexuality and spirituality did not go together. In today’s spiritual age, practices are growing in every way, shape, and form. This means that more people are beginning to understand the meaning behind their sexual experiences. Sex is seen as a blissful union and is also called “sacred sex”.
“Sex is subtle. It’s a gateway to connectedness. It starts with longing and culminates into belonging” – Gurucharan Singh Khalsa PH.D.
Yogi Bhajan said it was best to have sex once a month. Yes once! This is not a misprint! He explained the importance of preserving the “ojas” and how this takes place during the rise of the Kundalini energy. He also teaches us how sex starts three days before the actual intercourse. This is commonly referred to as courtship. For a woman, it is best to be in a clean place where she feels secure, and safe; a place where she and her partner can fall sleep afterwards. This place can be prepared with candles, aromas, and anything else that enhances the sexual experience.
Yogi Bhajan explains how sexual experiences get imprinted in the auric body and into our subconscious mind. Each one gets interlocked with a different intensity. A woman is receptive to the penetrating quality of men and flirting can also create holes in the aura.
These teachings also explain that each woman has two Arc lines, while men only have one. One of the Arc lines, perviously known as the Halo, goes from ear to ear. The color of the line depends on the person’s physical and mental health. The other one, which only women have, goes from nipple to nipple. This line gets imprinted with all the sexual experiences a woman has had in her life. It is very important for women to be able to clear these energies to keep her aura strong and clear.
Yogi Bhajan also explains how a woman’s energy is very sensitive. The blend of the electromagnetic fields and the auras can have a destructive effect and can leave her to become emotionally weak. On the other hand, if the relationship is based on love, trust, and respect, a woman can bloom and become creative, secure, and expansive.
“Sexual freedom should not become sexual exploitation; it should mean sexual preservation, choice, and reverence” Yogi Bhajan
In one of his articles, Gurucharan Singh Khalsa details one of his sessions as a psychotherapist. He interviewed two sisters with an only few years of age difference, about sex.
One of the sisters had been married for eleven years, the other one was single. Both of them were attractive. The one who was married dressed very classy and was more conservative when talking about sex. The single one dressed sexier and talked about sex without reservations. They had a wonderful relationship, and even finished each other sentences. But when they participated in a White Tantric Yoga, they started to disagree on certain issues.
The married sister did the workshop with her husband and experienced a divine union with her partner where the two souls blended into one. She described how this experience improved her relationship. The other sister described her experience as horrible. She said the face of her Tantric partner was changing and transforming into faces of past relationships; sometimes even into faces of some man she never even had a relationship with; A man with whom she had a one night stand with. She never thought of these men until this White Tantric Yoga experience. The Yoga made her feel very uncomfortable until the point that she wanted to quit, scream, and run out of there.
This is when Gurucharan Singh Khalsa explained to them how the auric body gets imprinted with the energy of each man that a woman has a relationship with.
One of the many benefits of Tantra Yoga is that it cleanses the subconscious mind. During this process, some forgotten or painful emotions return to the surface and the person can experience emotional highs and lows. The person may be feel happy, and then all of a sudden sad.
Once they understood what was happening they looked at each other and after a moment of silence started laughing.
This story is a real example that explains the importance of impressions in the auric body. These experiences are not always the same; each person can have a totally different experience.
There are two meditations that Yogi Bhajan gave us to clear all past sexual experiences. The meditations are called Kirtan Kriya and Sodarshan Kriya and you can find them in the meditations section.
Kundalini Yoga has different kriyas to strengthen the eight chakra, also known as the aura. The aura is the electromagnetic field around the body; it gives you protection. In an adult healthy person the aura is approximately three feet around the body, although there are no limitations for this. You can make that aura bigger by practicing some of the kriyas for the electromagnetic field. You can find them in the Yoga Kriyas section.
Here are some food tips for optimal sexual function:
FOODS FOR MEN’S SEXUAL ORGANS
-Liquid diet for the day prior to sexual intercourse, or if this is not possible, do not eat anything for 4 hours prior to having sex. One of the worst things a man can do is engage in sexual intercourse right after eating. This will ruin his nervous system and can lead to premature ejaculation. It can also ruin the stomach.
-After sex, not immediately but after a period of sleep, is important to replenish the sexual fluids and strengthen the nervous system.
These are some of the foods which replenish and stimulate the production of the sexual fluids (check the recipes section):
-Dates, a wonderful recipe is “date’s milk”
-Sesame-ginger milk
-Pistachios
-Yogi Tea

The experts say that religion has played a part, because every time you mix sexual behavior in a shame-based way, it’s very likely to create sex addiction. They point out that sex is most of the time the first addiction we create, because most people don’t come to drugs or alcohol until their teens. Unlike with sex, when at least three quarters of the people have received physical or emotional abuse at an earlier age.
Yogi Bhajan taught us “nothing is in sex and without sex there is nothing”
Sexual communion blends your aura with that of your partner. This comes about in a pure sexual spiritual act, without ego, where the two individuals disappear to form one.
Tips to create this sacred union:

-Nurture a relationship based on pure love and acceptance.
-There must be a committed relationship, with trust.
-Be present, feel, sense, communicate.
-Enjoy together this spiritual practice.
